At last, Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport is going to be connected to the high-speed train network, and it will happen as soon as 2026, according to an announcement by Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente.
How can it be done so quickly? The basic idea is to use part of the existing Cercanías line and connect an airport access tunnel at Terminal 4 with Chamartín station in Madrid.
This is a significant development, which will improve the airport’s connectivity, reduce travel times and facilitate sustainable medium and long-distance travel. So all good. As to how well it works for us in the south of Spain, we will have to wait and see how far ADIF is willing to facilitate the linking of trains through Madrid from Chamartín to Atocha.
