An article in Sur referred to an analysis conducted by Kelisto.es (a price comparison site), which found that Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and Madrid were the three Spanish cities with the highest cost of living compared with the national average, namely, 38.13%, 24.20% and 20.95% above average, respectively. Malaga city comes in sixth place with 12.44% above the national average.
At the other end of the scale, Lugo is the cheapest city (14.13% below national average), followed by Zamora (12.22% below) and Oviedo (11.18% below).
The report also noted that, despite Malaga’s high cost of living, its average net income per household is low at €33,786, making it number 41 out of 50 provincial capitals in the income ranking.
