A tribute to Gerald Brenan, English writer and hispanist (1894 – 1987), famous for his book, South of Granada, based on many years living in the village of Yegen in the Alpujarras. It is presented on behalf of the Municipality of Alhaurin el Grande, where he lived in his latter years.
Brenan died on 19 January 1987 and left his body to medical science (telling a friend this would avoid funeral charges!), where it remained untouched at Málaga University until he was buried here in the English Cemetery in 2001, next to his wife, American poet Gamel Woolsey.
The tribute takes place on 17 January, to mark the anniversary of his death.
