A report in La Opinión de Málaga identified the 5 towns in the province with the highest rates of population growth over the period 2019-2024, according to the Instituto de Estadística y Cartografía de Andalucía.
In those 5 years, the entire province has increased its population by 111,351 a rate of almost 7%. The largest increases were in:
- Casabermeja, 15.4% from 3,522 to 4,065
- Almogía, 11,2% from 3,715 to 4,132
- Rincón de la Victoria, 10.7%, from 47,179 to 52,230
- Cártama, 10.2%, from 26,259 to 28,934, and
- Alhaurín de la Torre, 9.2%, from 40,345 to 44,057.
By contrast, the provincial capital, Málaga, registered an increase of less than 3%.
This is interesting at a time when the US newspaper, the Washington Post, in an article on June 20th identified Spain as reaping the economic benefits of immigration, as distinct from the anti-immigrant trend in the US.
