During his visit to Cameroon, Pope Leo met with representatives of various Islamic communities, to discuss cooperation and social justice projects aimed at supporting the poorest sectors of the country’s population, run jointly between the Church and Islamic communities.
The Pope referred to the criticisms and divisions that can creep into relations between faiths and religions, and said that this reinforced the importance of “communicating everyone’s desire to find peace, not a peace of indifference, not a peace that diminishes the richness of differences, but a peace that is born when we recognise that we are all brothers and sisters, all creatures of the One, all called to respect the dignity of all.”
Pope Leo also expressed what he felt to be a great opportunity in Cameroon, to make this dream a reality, and encouraged those present to continue on this path, to bring others who maybe don’t yet share that dream, that they might see the beauty of fraternity, and the benefit it can bring to all in that country.
