UPDATE. As of now, Age in Spain has received donations of €5645 against its target of €7000 for those in need in Valencia following the floods. Can we close the gap? Donate online here.
The three days of mourning begin today, for those who have lost their lives in the recent floods. The total number of fatalities cannot yet be confirmed as rescuers continue to scour the devastated areas, but it is known to be in excess of 95.
Carlos Mazón, the regional leader of Valencia, has said some areas remain “absolutely impossible” to reach. Yet, while the rain has subsided in Valencia, weather officials have said parts of Catalonia and western Andalucia remain under maximum alert.
A prayer from Christian Aid for those affected by floods:
Compassionate God, source of all comfort,
We pray for the people whose lives have been devastated by rain and flood.
Bring them comfort, we pray.
Protect the vulnerable.
Strengthen the weak.
Keep at bay the spread of disease.
Have mercy on all those working to rescue the stranded and to feed the hungry.
And may our response to their suffering be generous and bring you praise.
For we ask it in Jesus name,
Amen
