Last night St George’s ran one of the largest events we have undertaken for a very long time –  a Gala Dinner for some 80 people outside in front of the Church within the English Cemetery, to raise money for the church’s restoration appeal.

Download the appeal brochure here.

The dinner, which was organised by our Fundraising Director, David Tweed, included entertainment provided by Vienna-based mezzo-soprano Stella Grigorian, with Damian Whiteley on the piano, as well as an auction with some outstanding prizes, and interviews with Marijke Cazemier, National President of our partner organisation, Age in Spain, and our very own Chaplain, Fr Louis. The dinner itself was served by The Carvery Restaurant in Torremolinos and our thanks go out to Mark and Karen Cornwell for such a splendid feast.

It is too early to say how much money was raised, as donations are still coming in, but it looks like it will be upwards of some €5000. If you would like to make a donation to support this appeal, you can still do so here. We are so grateful for the generosity of our congregation, visitors and supporters. Thank you!

The Gala Dinner has since been covered by an article in Sur, which you can read here.
