Our Diocese in Europe announced today the name of the new Suffragan Bishop, who will take up his duties in the Spring. He is Canon Andrew Norman, currently Director of Ministry and Mission in the Leeds Diocese. He will succeed the Rt Revd David Hamid, who retired earlier this year.

According to an article in today’s Church Times, his responsibilities will include chairing the diocese’s Ministry Team and being the lead bishop for safeguarding.

Canon Norman served his title (his first clerical post) within this Diocese, in fact at St Michael’s, Paris. This is not a common practice as most clergy begin their ministry in the UK, though our very own Mother Doreen also began in this Diocese!

Prior to his present post, Canon Norman was Principal of Ridley Hall theological college in Cambridge, where he had himself trained for the ministry in the early 1990s.

The plans for his consecration and then installation at Holy Trinity Cathedral, Gibraltar, are still being finalised but are likely to take place late February or early March.
