Vietnamese online newspaper, VnExpress, reported that some 2.3 million American tourists had visited Spain in the first half of this year, a 9.5% increase on 2025, and the strongest growth among our key international visitor markets, making the US the fifth largest source of tourists to Spain, behind the UK, Germany, France and Italy.
The article explains that the rapid increase in American visitors to Spain in recent years is driven by Spain’s high level of safety amid global uncertainty, and growing interest in our culture and cuisine, as well as visa-free entry for US citizens for up to 90 days and further expansion of direct services between US cities and key Spanish destinations including Malaga.
The article appeared a day after an article in The Independent, explaining that Spain was set to overtake France as world’s most-visited tourist location. According to a joint study by Deloittes and Google, with an estimated 110 million inbound arrivals by 2040, Spain could well take top place for annual visitors.
France, currently the most visited country, had 102 million annual international visitors in 2025, but is only is projected to grow to 105 million by 2040. Whereas Spain received a record 96.8 million in 2025, and is projected to grow much faster.
And yet Spain is not the fastest growing tourist destination in Europe. Data from Amadeus and UN Tourism shows that the Czech Republic is growing faster – though from a lower base – with air travel bookings up year on year by some 18%.
