I am sorry to announce that Revd Sheila Mitchell has resigned from the clergy team. She was the longest serving member of the team and will be greatly missed by the congregation and clergy colleagues alike.

Sheila joined the clergy team in 2008, when she and her husband Bob moved from the UK to live full-time in Mondron near Periana in a house that had previously been their holiday home. For the previous 7 years she had been vicar of a country parish in the Chester Diocese, Sheila was ordained in 1996, having previously run a Christian charity providing drug education to schools in the Wirral.

Here she has been particularly associated with the congregation at Torre del Mar and then Velez-Malaga. She had previously indicated that she was ready to reduce her workload but finally decided to step down as the change of service times at Velez-Malaga would have made it a little more difficult for her. While her Permission to Officiate is terminating here, she will continue to support colleagues in the Chester diocese.

It is a huge strength to have someone in the clergy team who has been here for a long time. They bring a knowledge and a wisdom which newer arrivals take time to acquire. At this morning´s clergy meeting, her colleagues lined up to sing her praises, describing her as “incredibly helpful and supportive”, a “very loyal and reliable colleague” and a “quiet, faithful and supportive presence”.
