The children’s choir of Pueri Cantores sang a special Choral Evensong at St George’s on Sunday 3rd November, to mark All Souls’ Day. The choir was directed by Antonio del Pino, from Malaga Cathedral, and the service was led by the Chaplain, Fr Louis Darrant, who was also joined by a Scottish piper and drummer who played a lament before and afterwards.
Fr Louis writes, “When Antonio del Pino told me he was visiting London I encouraged him to visit Westminster Abbey. As one of Malaga’s outstanding organists and musical directors, I knew he wouldn’t be disappointed. He was full of praise for the Anglican musical tradition and was delighted to attend an Evensong at the Abbey.
“When I was thinking about how to observe All Souls’ this year it was clear to me that I wanted to invite Antonio and the Pueri Cantores children’s choir to provide the music. I was impressed by the combination of singing in English as well as Latin plainchant which formed part of this unique Evensong. The children sang beautifully!”
Happily the Pueri Cantores choir will be returning to St George’s on Friday 13th December to sing at our Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols thus deepening the friendship between our two communities.
