A story recently appeared in Reuters, of a Portuguese priest, Padre Guilherme Peixoto, who has been DJ-ing in his parish of Laundos, near Porto, in Portugal.

Ever since the covid-19 pandemic forced his parish church to close, he has been streaming live DJ sets to fans worldwide every weekend. Like many people unable to perform live while under lockdown, he found a new audience thanks to the massive uptake of livestreaming.

Reuters reports that he is now famous beyond his homeland. He has performed at Hi Ibiza, one of the world’s top clubs, and more concerts are scheduled here in Spain, as well as Italy and Switzerland. But his goal remains the same – to spread a message of hope through music.

Last year, Peixoto was invited to perform during Pope Francis visit to Portugal for World Youth Day. Apparently during a trip to the Vatican City, his Holiness blessed his headphones!

Does anyone remember the DJ priest in Father Ted? He remembered to bring all his equipment to the gig, but forgot the records, except for one – “Ghost Town” by the Specials. See the short clip here.
