The Church of England has launched a new album of music, The Gift of This New Day, in response to demand from listeners of its Daily Prayer app and podcast.
The Gift of This New Day, which is available on CD and streaming platforms, includes a blend of chant, public domain sacred works, and five newly commissioned pieces, requested by users of the app and performed by St Martin’s Voices.
According to the C of E news service, since its launch in 2021, the Daily Prayer app has become a “spiritual companion for millions, with over 3.1 million unique users and nearly 12 million downloads. Music has been a central part of the experience from the beginning, offering beauty, comfort, and space for reflection, especially during the isolation of the UK’s COVID lockdowns”.
