Several Christian organisations led by the French Bible Society are working together to distribute 200,000 New Testaments during the Paris Olympic Games this summer – 140,000 copies in French and 60,000 in English.

This limited edition includes some 15 testimonies from Christian athletes, including French handball champion Joël Abati and Australian high jumper Nicola Olyslagers, according to the Christian news site, Premier Christian News.

Among the organisations involved in this initiative are Holy Games, the Catholic Church’s programme to support the world of sport and Protestant Chaplaincy, a commission set up by the French Protestant Federation.

The title, “More Precious than Gold”, is inspired by 1 Peter 1:7, where genuine faith in God is described as “more precious than gold”. Of course it is also a reference to the gold medals for which all Olympic athletes are striving.

Jonathan Boulet, General Secretary of the French Bible Society says of the athletes’ testimonies: “These accounts serve as a powerful reminder of the enduring impact the Bible continues to have in our contemporary world,”

Let us remember to pray for the games, for the safety of all participants, their teams and supporters, for the building of bonds of friendship and for God’s blessing on this initiative.
