Sur reported a few days ago that the number of people travelling on the Malaga Metro has now reached the figure set by the Junta as break-even for covering running costs, which is a new record – some 19,222,912 people used the Metro over the course of 2025, an increase of 5.3% on 2024, according to data from the regional ministry of public works. Much of the growth is the result of the new Guadalmedina and Atarazanas stations.
Apparently, April was the best month, thanks to the Easter holidays. There were nearly 1.9 million travellers, the highest month’s volume since the Metro started in 2014. Last year’s lowest month was August, with just 1.2 million. Weekdays averaged 59,846, followed by Saturdays (45,895) and Sundays (30,703).
The busiest day was Easter Monday (113,880), followed by Maundy Thursday (100,305), and in thrid place, 28 November when the Calle Larios Christmas lights were switched on (87,594). The least busy was 6 January (17,662). And the busiest stations, not surprisingly, were Atarazanas (2,756,056), El Perchel (2,434,257) and Guadalmedina (1,876,039).
