Programme for

the Season of

Lent 2026

18th February – 4th April

What is Lent?

Lent is the 40 days (not including Sundays) from Ash Wednesday to Easter Saturday. It is the time to prepare ourselves for Easter, but that requires of us to go deeper into God, and relive the passion and death of Christ in Holy Week.

The great thing about Lent is that it has a start, a middle and an end. In other words, if you want to try out a new devotion, discipline or act of personal generosity, you can have a go in Lent, and if it doesn´t work out there is no shame in walking away at the end. So why not give it a go?

Here at St George’s, we have a series of Lentern activities. Not everything suits everybody, but find something that might work for you and give it a try.

Title : Seek first the Kingdom

1. Discussion: How to seek the Kingdom?

What did Jesus mean when he said, “Seek first the Kingdom of God”? Explore these famous words found in Matthew 6:33, and consider his way of valuing love and life more than status and wealth. Jesus never minimises physical needs, but he helps us rethink the things we often love the most. Follow the link here.

Wednesdays in Lent (25th February, 4th, 11th, 18th March) at 7pm. Sessions can also be offered online by request. Cick here.

To join a session, just come along. Or if you get the chance, please let Fr Louis know beforehand, by email or WhatsApp.

2. Quiet Day at Cortique Carranque

Join us to enjoy a Day of Quiet Contemplation on Saturday 21st March in the beautiful surroundings of Cortijo Carranque, a Christian retreat centre 45 minutes from St George’s.

The day will be led by Angela Tomlins on the theme of God’s Kingdom, with reference to RS Thomas’ poem, The Kingdom.

To join the day and for directions to the retreat centre, please contact Fr Louis by email or WhatsApp.

    3. Online Resources

We have identified some online resources which you might find helpful, particularly as a supplement to some of the other activities. Examples are:

    (i) The Bible Project
    (ii) The Everyday Faith app
(iii) The World Communication for Christian Meditation app

For suggestions for further resources, please contact Fr Louis by email or WhatsApp.

    4. Breathing Space: Seeing God through Art

Tuesdays at 10am on Zoom. The idea is to display a piece of art and share a reflection from Bishop Richard Harries’ book, Seeing God in Art, after which we will pray the Rosary.

Breathing Space takes place every Tuesday morning, in and out of Lent, and can be accessed via Zoom here. It is a time to pause, pray, reflect and reconnect.

To join a session, just click the link. If you wish to contact Fr Louis beforehand, you can do so by email or WhatsApp.

    5. Pilgrimage to the Pinares de San Anton

Pinares de San Antón lies north-east of Málaga, on the south side of Mount San Antón, bordering the Montes de Málaga.

The pilgrimage will include resources on the theme of God’s Kingdom, using music, scripture and poetry.

We will gather for coffee at 10:30am on Saturday 7th March before we start the walk.

For more details and start location, please contact Fr Louis, by email or WhatsApp.
