The Chaplaincy has been successful in its bid to secure funding from the Diocese in Europe to undertake an immediate upgrade to St George’s church building to improve its environmental impact.
The funding comes from a short-term budget called ‘Quick Wins’ which became available in January from the Diocese. The budget aimed at helping Anglican chaplaincies in Europe to undertake small projects to generate some pretty immediate carbon emission reductions – or energy efficiency improvements – within their church or church hall.
For us here in Malaga, the €3000 grant will enable us to install a new external door to the vestry, repair draughty windows and replace lighting with LEDs.
Later in the year, the Chaplaincy will be undertaking some bigger works on the building, to include some rewiring, new plumbing, remodelling of the vestry and repainting, as well as a possible repair or replacement of some of the floor.
We are particularly grateful for to the Diocese for this grant. Not only will this enable us to undertake the works identified, which will make for a more comfortable church and help reduce energy bills, but, in a wider sense, it helps us to focus on our environmental responsibilities, reduce our carbon emissions and extend our care for this wonderful creation that God has entrusted to us.
