The focus of the meeting was discerning the next step for the location of Velez Church following the request of the parish priest to increase the rental donation by a significant margin. To ease the pressure on the rota it was agreed to change the service times to 9am at Velez and 11:30am at Malaga from September 1st onwards. This would enable us to offer a regular service at each church every Sunday, by the Chaplain if necessary. We are now in a position to plan more intentionally our pattern of worship across the chaplaincy.
The work of the Council is to be divided into four Working Groups: Fabric and Funding (Tris), Outreach (Gloria), Events and Marketing (John) and Liturgy, Education and Formation (Gemma). A Coordinator was agreed for each working group (see names above). Fr Louis will meet with each Coordinator between each Council meeting to help us review and keep on track our various commitments.
Each Working Group was charged with identifying one initiative related to addressing the funding situation we are facing and we agreed to meet again on September 10th.
We agreed to seek three quotes for the redecoration of St George’s Church. We are also intending the replace the carpet in the sanctuary.
Fr Louis spoke about the value of preparing a Mission Action Plan to enable us to become more strategic in our development and an example was shared to help us see how this particular tool can serve us at the Chaplaincy.
