It was holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel, who famously said, “The opposite of love is not hate but indifference”. A few days ago, in a video message addressed to the Annual Assembly of the Conference of Religious Superiors in the US, the Pope talked about how love is the remedy to indifference.
The Church needs religious men and women, he said, and “all the diversity and richness of the forms of consecration and ministry” they represent, because, it is through their vitality and their witness to a life centered on Jesus, that they can help re-awaken our world.
And that is how, together, we can “confront the globalisation of indifference and powerlessness with the remedy of Christ’s love and mercy”, he said.
