I am grateful to Mother Doreen for finding this interesting story. Premier Christian News has reported that digital donations are increasingly critical to church life with younger generations more likely to give digitally and digital giving generally on the up.

Research by Ministry Brands in partnership with the Parable Group, published in the 2026 Annual Church Giving and Annual Parish Giving reports, analysed “billions” of dollars in digital donations made to churches, and compared Protestants and Catholics.

Among Protestant churches, 57% saw an increase in digital giving with digital platforms accounting for 41% of total donations, in churches where these were available, while nearly half of Catholic parishes reporting increased giving also saw growth in digital contributions. For Catholics, giving was closely linked to how frequently someone attends church in person, whereas for Protestants, online giving from attendees at livestreamed events made up a significant portion of donations. Across the board, churches offering digital wallets and mobile payment options were almost twice as likely to report increased giving from donors aged 18-29.

Chris Bacon, CEO of Ministry Brands, said: “Churches and parishes are seeing that when giving is accessible and clearly connected to mission, participation follows”.
