The Church of England has published figures showing 2025 was the fifth year in a row of growth in weekly and Sunday attendance, with also strong growth in Christmas and Easter, according to preliminary findings in their annual Statistics for Mission report.
The report found some 1.023 million regular worshippers across Church of England congregations through 2025, 1.4% up on 2024, making 2025 the fifth year in a row in which attendance has increase, the first time that has happened since current records began.
Just under two million people joined services on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, up 5.5% on 2024, with Easter attendance at just over one million, up 7.8%. Average Sunday attendance was 590,000, up 1.6% on 2024.
NB These are preliminary finding only and the full 2025 Statistics for Mission report will not be published until the autumn.
