Share the Pleasure of Singing with Others

The Malaga Chaplaincy Children’s Choir

St George’s Church is setting up a children’s choir. We’d love to have you join us. Read on….

For children: Firstly music is a pleasure, it enriches our lives, especially when it is someting we can do with others. But there is more to it than that. Children joining the choir will gain a proper understanding of music, in both a theoretical and a practical sense. And don’t think this is all boring or old fashioned music either. It is not: we are increasingly using modern hymns and anthems in our worship. And children looking for the opportunity to practise and improve their English, will also find that here!

For parents: Could this be something your child is interested in? Do they enjoy listening to or playing music? Do they sing to themselves at home? Children joining this choir will learn a lot about music. Of course. But they will also learn self-discipline, they will learn how to perform, and they will learn how to work as part of a team.

For other adults: In time, there will also be the opportunity to join an adult choir. While this is not our immediate priority, we would love to hear from you, if that is something you would like to do. Last Christmas we put together a ‘pop up’ adult choir, and may wish to do the same soon for a few of our services. If you are interested in a first chat, contact Fr Louis below.

One of the gifts of the Anglican tradition is the glory of its music. Good music lifts the heart, cheers the soul and helps us to live & worship with all our of senses. It brings people together, sharpens discipline and skill, and creates community.

When will the Choir start?

Funding for the choir was approved by the Diocese in July this year, and the organising committee starts its work in August.

We plan for rehearsals to begin in November and the first members of the choir can sing on Friday 4th December.

And who are we looking for?

It may well be you. There is no blueprint. Instead we are looking for children who:

  • Have an enjoyment of music. In a child, that might show in singing around the house or listening to their favourite tracks
  • Do not need to have any understanding of music theory, as that will be taught
  • Have the capacity to learn and enjoy being part of the group
  • Are old enough to read but young enough that their voices have not yet broken
  • Are English or Spanish speaking (or any other language), so long as they can understand sufficient English to learn as part of the group, as all rehearsals and services will be conducted in English. But they don’t have to be word perfect. Their English will improve anyway by mixing with others
  • Are male or female. All are welcome!

But if you are not sure, make contact and we can talk about it. See the contact details below.

In the first instance, please contact our Parish Priest Fr Louis by email or WhatsApp. In his absence, or to organise an initial chat with any of the clergy, contact Fr Hilary by email or WhatsApp.

Children – please remember to speak to a parent first!
