A piece by Martin Collins, Secretary to St George’s Chaplaincy Council, summarising the Council Meeting on Sunday 14th September, where important items were discussed and decisions taken which relate to the future of St George’s.
Mission Action Plan
Fr Hilary presented to the Council on the Mission Action Plan (MAP) which seeks to develop a plan for our church and community for the next 5 years. Prepration of the MAP includes an online survey of attitudes to the church, open to all of our community, irrespective of how often you are able to attend services at St George’s or Salinas.
The online questionnaire takes all our views and collates them anonymously to create a picture of the views of the community.

The survey is a way of discerning the support in the community for different aspects of church life and guiding the choices and the priority we give to potential future initiatives. The 90 questions take around 25 minutes to complete.

Church Re-Furbishment Project
Secondly the Council took the decision to invest in an architectural project which will:
a) document the requirements for church upgrades covering essential maintenance and necessary structural work
b) enable us to obtain detailed quotes to the architect’s specifications
c) obtain the necessary permissions from the planning authorities (The English Cemetery and the church are classified as a historic site), and
d) take decisions about how to phase the programme of works in line with available funds.
St George’s is self-supporting, and we will soon be starting a major appeal for funding for this re-furbishment project – watch this space .. !
Planned Giving – Count Me In!
Aside from any special appeals, our primary fund-raising goal is to cover a higher proportion of our regular costs through our planned giving scheme, “Count Me In”
There is no minimum (or maximum!) contribution and you can claim tax on your annual donations, either in Spain or the UK, wherever you are tax resident.
