Well, it is not every day that one of our clergy appears in a leading regional news service. And very appropriate that it is Fr William, who is setting out to raise money for the day-to-day running costs of St Andrew’s Chaplaincy in Fuengirola.

Due to injuries incurred playing rugby at school before the age of 16, he has issues with his left knee, lower back and right foot. For most of his life, they were not a significant problem but in his latter years they have become more so, to the point that he can’t run at all, and walks with a bit of a limp. But there is one sport that he can participate in as well as anyone, and better than most, and that is to swim! And living here in the Costa del Sol provides a huge opportunity to participate in open-water swimming competitions.

So, he started at the 8ª Virgen del Carmen Coronada Travesía a Nado in Estepona on Sunday 21st July, and won 1st place in the 61+ age-group. In all, he will compete in 11 competitions between July and October, covering a distance of 14,700 metres. He is aiming to raise 20 cents per metre swum, so a total of €2,940.
