“A City on a Hill” (Matthew 5:14)
What is a Mission Action Plan?
A Mission Action Plan (MAP) is a vision for the type of church that we want to be in 5 years’ time and the steps we need to take to reach that goal.
Developing the MAP requires a process through which we discern our vision, identify our goals, and develop practical steps to fulfill our purpose and engage with the community that we serve. The MAP we produce will then help us to focus our activities, take informed decisions, and utilise our resources more effectively.
What is our Process to Develop the MAP?
We will develop the MAP over the next 3 months and launch on Advent Sunday, 30th November. Key actions:
- A congregational consultation/assessment (open 7 Sept – 27 Oct), using an online questionnaire
- A presentation to the Chaplaincy Council, and detailed discussions (Sept/Oct) in 5 Working Groups*, looking at different aspects of the Chaplaincy’s life
- A congregational vision workshop to feed back the results of the consultation & discern our future
The Chaplaincy Council Standing Committee will oversee the process and appoint a writer to author the MAP.
*Council Sub-groups for Finance, Fabric, Outreach, Events, Liturgy
How can I get involved?
The process for completing the MAP is nearing completion. We have:
- Undertaken a consultation/assessment exercise to discern the views, energies and wishes of our congregations,
- Encouraged the Working Groups and Clergy team to have identify developments they would like to see over the coming 5 years, and
- Run a very successful Congregational Vision Workshop, and identified key areas which the congregations believe are important for the church in the next 5 years. Click here to download the presentation from the workshop.
The MAP is now largely written. It will be out for consultation during March and April, and will be published at the Chaplaincy AGM on 10th May.
We’d love to have your input!
Thank you for taking part in this important exercise.
If you would find it easier to talk one-to-one with one of the clergy about this process, contact Fr Hilary here, and he will set up the meeting.
Jesus said, ‘You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden’.
Together we will create the right future for our Chaplaincy.
