EuroNews reported on publication of the 2025 edition of the Gallup Global Safety Report. Their feature opened with two shocking facts: firstly that people feel less safe walking alone at night in Italy or France than in dozens of other countries, including Iraq, Rwanda, and Bangladesh, and secondly that only one European nation makes it to the top 10 of safe countries, and that is Norway.
Spain actually did rather well, appearing in the top 20% of safe countries around the world and 7th safest in the EU. Lower down, the perception of security among Italians is the lowest in Europe, and the 95th in the world, behind war-torn Ukraine, Nicaragua, Mauritania and Niger!
